About the speaker:

Hannes A. Fellner (PhD, Harvard University) is professor of digitial corpus linguistics at the University of Vienna and director of the Institute for China and Southeast Asia Studies. He works across three interconnected fields: historical-comparative linguistics and digital philology, with a focus on languages of ancient China; philosophy, particularly the development of dialectical thought and the work of the German Marxist philosopher Hans Heinz Holz; and China studies, with emphasis on intellectual traditions, cultural history, and contemporary thought.

Fellner is a member of the Young Academy of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and serves on the board of the Fondazione Centro di Studi Filosofici. He is co-editor of several journals, including Die Sprache (Harrassowitz), Tocharian and Indo-European Studies (Brill), Aufhebung – Jahrbuch der Gesellschaft für Dialektische Philosophie (Aisthesis), and Marxistische Blätter (Neue Impulse).

Abstract:

The lecture is an inquiry into the ethical dimension of Marxist philosophy, focusing on human–human–nature relation and the conditions of human emancipation.
