In 1994, the School of Philosophy was approved as the national students training and scientific research base of the basic discipline of liberal arts (Philosophy). In 2007, it was designated as the national construction focus for a distinguished field of study. In 2008, it was also recognized as a construction focus in Beijing as a distinguishing field of study. The School of Philosophy has four undergraduate majors: Philosophy, Ethics, Religious Studies, and PPE (Political Science, Economics, and Philosophy). Among these majors, Philosophy is recognized as the national first-class undergraduate major and is included in the first tranche of the “Foundational Plan,” which designates a joint training program in undergraduate and doctoral studies. Additionally, it is a designated base for the “National Training of Talented Students in Basic Disciplines 2.0” by the Ministry of Education. Ethics is recognized as a national first-class undergraduate major and remains the only undergraduate major in ethics in China. Religious studies is recognized as a first-class undergraduate major in Beijing. Political Science, Economics, and Philosophy (PPE) is recognized as a first-class undergraduate major in Beijing. It serves as a benchmark for the new liberal arts training model, and is a composite interdisciplinary major inspired by the experiences of renowned universities such as Oxford University. This program is a collaborative effort led by the School of Philosophy cooperating with the School of International Studies, the School of Economics, and the School of Applied Economics. The School of Philosophy offers 10 masters’ and doctoral programs in the following subjects: Marxist Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Foreign Philosophy, Ethics, Religious Studies, Aesthetics, Logic, Philosophy of Science and Technology, Philosophy of Management, and Political Philosophy. Additionally, the school offers a masters’s program in Applied Ethics.
