Collaborative Program Between School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China and Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Ghent University (Belgium)

In order to further promote academic exchanges and cultural visits, the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China and the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Ghent University (Belgium) are carrying out cooperation projects based on the principle of mutually beneficial cooperation, which includes, but is not limited to, the development of academic programs and curricula, mutual assignment of faculty members and researchers, mutual exchange of students and joint training of PhDs.
Student Exchange
(i) Peer-to-peer exchange
In each academic year, each university sends a maximum of two exchange students (including both undergraduate and graduate) to each other. The specialization of the exchange students of Ghent University is East Asian Languages and Culture (China) at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy.
Exchange students from the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China must take courses from the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Ghent University (European Credit Transfer System) and may choose a few courses from other faculties of Ghent University

Both sides make every effort to ensure a balanced number of exchange students.
(ii) Application review
Both sides are required to screen applicants based on each other's admission criteria, nationality and language requirements. At the same time, the receiving school still has the right to check the applicant's situation and decide on the final acceptance.
(iii) Application process
Both sides will nominate candidates before the other's deadline. Ghent University application and nomination deadlines are as shown on the official website:

Application deadline for the fall semester is: May 30th.
Application deadline for the spring semester is: November 30th.
(iv) Length of exchange
The duration of the exchange student's stay at the host university is one to two semesters.
(v) Requirements for exchange students
In principle, both sides will only accept "non-conventional" exchange students, i.e., exchange students who do not apply for a degree or other formal qualifications from the host university. When applying for this exchange program, students should have completed at least one academic year of study at their home university.
(vi) Learning programs
Based on this agreement, the following are the study programs in which exchange students may participate: study or research for the purpose of a master's thesis. Each exchange student is required to consult with the supervisors of his/her home university and host university before participating in a study program at the host university.
Before departure, the exchange student is required to sign a study agreement with the home university and the host university for the selected program. Depending on the program of study, the host university may impose language or other requirements. Generally both sides allow exchange students to enter the selected program unless the program has a numerical requirement and is full.
(vii) Tuition and other expenses
Exchange students are not required to pay tuition and other fees to the host university, but are required to register at their home university and pay the following fees to their home university in order to participate in the program.
Each exchange student is responsible for paying the following expenses during the exchange period:
-Costs associated with language tests;
-Travel to and from;
-Teaching materials, stationery, etc;
-Travel documents, visa fees, etc;
-Accommodation, food and other living expenses;
-Fees associated with student organizations (if membership is available);
-Health and accident insurance required by the receiving school and its home country;
-Personal transportation expenses within the country of the receiving school;
-Family-related expenses, including education expenses and living expenses;
-All other obligations and additional expenditures incurred during the exchange.
(viii) Credit Recognition
All credits earned during on-site or online study at the host university - both those signed in the learning agreement and those on the transcript - need to be immediately transferable to the home university's credit without the need for the student to do evaluations or other additional work.
(ix) Visas
The host university is obliged to provide the exchange student with the necessary documents for obtaining a student visa; the exchange student himself/herself is responsible for obtaining a visa in his/her home country in time.
(x) Accommodation
If the applicant submits his/her application before the deadline and is granted the exchange status, both sides are obliged to help him/her to find suitable accommodation; it is the responsibility of the exchange student himself/herself to find suitable accommodation for himself/herself.
Joint training PhD
Based on the cooperative agreement, the both sides agree:
(a)For jointly trained doctoral students, joint supervision of their doctoral research, joint organization of doctoral examinations and conferment of doctoral titles will be given.
(b)The granting of a double degree for joint doctoral studies shall be based on the laws in force in the country of each university and on an official document drawn up by both sides after the doctoral examination.
(c)Jointly trained doctoral students are required to register at both universities of the agreement and pay the doctoral tuition fees of both schools.
(d)
For joint doctoral students who have been included in the agreement, the deposit in addition to the tuition fee will no longer be charged. For other doctoral students who do not receive financial support under the agreement, relevant fees will be charged in accordance with the general rules of the universities, which may include the deposit; the exemption of the deposit needs to be clearly stipulated in the agreement of each jointly trained doctoral student.
(e)
Each joint trained doctoral student is required to sign an agreement of joint training, which includes specific details related to the joint doctoral training.
(f)The two parties shall sign a separate agreement on specific matters concerning the joint training.
