On April 25, 2022, during his visit to Renmin University of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that “The priority of developing the philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics is to establish an independent knowledge system.” To establish an independent knowledge system, it is necessary to prioritize the cultivation of top-tier talents in fundamental philosophical disciplines, fully leverage the theoretical and speculative strengths of philosophy, adhere to the laws governing the development of philosophical disciplines, integrate the construction concept of actively align with new humanities and social sciences, major national strategic and social needs, and promote knowledge, theoretical, and methodological innovation through the modernization of philosophical education.

In order to thoroughly implement the important speech spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the symposium on philosophy and social science and his research visit to Renmin University of China, the School of Philosophy at Renmin of University of China has established the “Research Center for the Development of Contemporary Chinese Philosophy.” This center is committed to constructing an independent knowledge system for Chinese philosophy and promoting the cultivation of top-tier talents in philosophy disciplines. Additionally, it takes the implementation of the “101 Plan” for philosophy disciplines launched by the Ministry of Education as an important research topic. The "Research Center for the Development of Contemporary Chinese Philosophy" is rooted in the philosophy discipline of Renmin University of China and congregate the philosophical strengths of 14 top universities participating in the “Top Talents 2.0” program. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the center aims to establish an independent philosophical knowledge system with Chinese characteristics. It takes root in China's soil, inherits the essence of thought from traditional Chinese culture and classics, integrates philosophical resources from both ancient and modern times, as well as from China and abroad, and redefines the knowledge boundaries of modern philosophical academic systems. With a sense of self-awareness and autonomy, it strives to create ideas that are in line with the spirit of the times, continuously deepening basic theoretical research and interdisciplinary research in philosophy that reflects the unique characteristics of Chinese thought. Simultaneously, the research center promotes the deep integration of scientific research and teaching, using research to enhance teaching and high-level research to drive the quality of talent cultivation, making Renmin University of China a hub for cultivating Chinese philosophical talents in the new era. It expands international exchange channels and cooperation forms, stays abreast of international frontier academic developments, improves teachers' and students' abilities for deep international academic dialogues, and achieves academic international exchange and cooperation connected China to the world,  It strengthens interdisciplinary research in philosophy, focuses on significant real-world human and social development issues, leads the philosophy discipline into the prime territory of new humanities and social sciences construction, and opens up a new situation for cultivating top-tier talents in philosophy.
