Biography of Professor Zhong Yuren

Zhong Yuren, an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, a famous western philosophy research expert and translator, and an honorary first-level professor of Renmin University of China, died at the age of 98 in Beijing at 1 : 2 on March 2,2024.

Zhong Yuren, male, was born in Hunan in March 1926. He joined the Communist Party of China in November 1984. In 1945, he was admitted to the Department of Politics of the Central University.He studied and worked in North China University from 1948 to 1950.Later, he studied Russian as a graduate student in the Russian Teaching and Research Section of Renmin University of China.In 1951, he began to serve as an interpreter in the Marxist-Leninist Basic Teaching and Research Section and the Department of Philosophy of Renmin University of China as a Soviet expert in classroom interpreting. In 1957, he was transferred to the Department of Philosophy of Renmin University of China as an associate professor and professor. In 1990, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a doctoral supervisor. In 1992, he began to enjoy the special allowance of the State Council. In 2019, he was awarded the honorary first-class professor of Renmin University of China. He was a consultant of the Chinese National Association of the History of Foreign Philosophy, deputy editor-in-chief of the ' Hegel Dictionary ', editor-in-chief of the ' Commentary on Famous Western Philosophers ' ( Volume III, Volume IV ), chief translator of the ' History of Dialectics in the Fourteenth-Eighteenth Century ', member of the compilation group of the history of foreign philosophy of the ' Encyclopedia of Chinese Philosophy ' ( Philosophy Volume ), and participated in the compilation of the History of European Philosophy '.

Professor Zhong Yuren is proficient in Russian, English and German, and has made outstanding contributions to the translation of philosophy textbooks, the compilation of Marxist philosophy history and European philosophy history textbooks. Since the 1980 s, he has been engaged in the study of European empiricism and rationalism philosophy, German classical philosophy and German modern philosophy. His profound insights and unique insights have deepened and promoted the research of Chinese academic circles in the above fields. He published dozens of monographs, translations and academic papers. The representative works are Historical Investigation of Empiricism and Rationalism, Overview of Hegel 's Epistemology, Preliminary Study of Hegel 's Practical Theory, Translation of Teraishaw 's Theory of Alienation from Hegel to Marx. Among them, ' Trayshaw Translation ' won the academic paper award of Renmin University of China. Professor Zhong Yuren adheres to the guidance of Marxism in the teaching and research of philosophy and the history of philosophy, and is fond of learning and thinking, and the unity of knowledge and practice, which is widely praised by the academic circles.

Professor Zhong Yuren devoted his whole life to the study of the history of Western philosophy. He was willing to be a ladder, and cultivated a batch of pillars with both ability and political integrity for the society and academia in the way of teaching and learning. The death of Professor Zhong Yuren is not only a great loss of Renmin University of China, but also a great loss of Chinese philosophy. His noble character and outstanding contributions will always be remembered in our hearts !
