Béatrice Péré, Minister of Humanities of the Sorbonne University, Leads Delegation to Visit the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China
Apr 09 , 2024On April 9th, Professor Béatrice Pérez, Minister of Humanities (at the level of Vice Chancellor) of the Sorbonne University, led a delegation to visit the School of Philosophy. Professor Zang Fengyu, Dean of the School of Philosophy, met with the delegation. Both sides carried out in-depth discussions on cooperation and exchanges, project co-construction, and student cultivation, and so on.
Professor Zang Fengyu warmly welcomed Béatrice Pérez and her delegation, and then introduced the history of the development of the School of Philosophy and reviewed the close cooperation between the School of Philosophy and the Department of Philosophy of the Sorbonne over the years. In recent years, the School of Philosophy has invited several professors from the Department of Philosophy of the Sorbonne University to give academic lectures, and a number of teachers and students have gone to the Sorbonne University for academic visits, degree study or short-term exchange programs. Last September, Professor Zang Fengyu led a delegation to Paris to attend the First China-Europe Civilization Forum and visited the Department of Philosophy of Sorbonne University. He expressed his hope for further cooperation between the School of Philosophy and the Department of Philosophy of Sorbonne University in areas such faculty and student exchanges, co-curricular construction,and the renewal of framework agreements, while exploring joint master's degree programs. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of advancing cooperation with the Suzhou campus to enhance students' French language abilities, laying a solid foundation for their academic exchanges. The School of Philosophy will strive to build a dialogue platform between the two parties, fully leverage its disciplinary strengths, and strengthen cooperation in teaching through methods such as co-teaching.
Béatrice Pérez expressed her gratitude to Zang Fengyu and introduced the Department of Humanities and Philosophy of Sorbonne University. She noted that the Department of Philosophy of Sorbonne University has a solid foundation of cooperation with the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China, and can further promote collaboration in areas such as science and technology, political philosophy, ethics, and comparative philosophy, and promote the cooperation between the two sides in the fields of teaching and scientific research by organizing lectures, academic workshops, and establishing an academic dialogue mechanism. The Faculty of Humanities of Sorbonne University will actively promote the signing of the framework agreement between the Department of Philosophy and the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China, and implement the goals of cooperation through co-organizing forums and other means. She expressed her hope for further advancing cooperation in joint training, faculty and student exchanges, and academic exchanges, building a better platform for further exchanges between faculty and students from both sides, and jointly exploring projects suitable for the learning needs of students from both institutions.
Yuan Li, the Deputy Dean of the School of Philosophy expressed her hope fort cooperation with Sorbonne University to promote the “China-French Humanities Talent Cultivation Program”, to carry out interdisciplinary talent cultivation, and to enhance the level of talent cultivation and international influence. She looked forward to improve the design of the training program together, rely on each other's high-quality educational resources, and enrich and expand the content of cooperation. Associate Professor Li Jifen introduced the English Master's Program of the School of Philosophy - “Chinese Philosophy, Religion and Culture”, and hoped to further strengthen the cooperation with Sorbonne University on this program. She warmly welcomed students who are interested in Chinese culture to study in the School of Philosophy. Associate Professor Alexis of the School of Philosophy remarked that comparative philosophy holds vast development potential. Through comparative study of Chinese and Western philosophy,we can explore the similarities and differences in modes of thinking, ideological systems, and value orientations under the two distinct cultural contexts.
During the meeting, Dean Zang Fengyu presented the book “The Annual Rings of Our Philosophy: The School of Philosophy of Renmin University in the Shadow of Time" to Béatrice Pérez and her delegation.
