Delegation of Sorbonne University Visited RUC

The delegation of Sorbonne University, led by Béatrice Pérez, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Sorbonne University, visited Renmin University of China (RUC) on the afternoon of April 9th.

Zhang Donggang, Chair of the University Council, and Lin Shangli, President of RUC, met with the delegation. Zheng Xinye, Vice President of RUC, attended the meeting.

Zhang Donggang warmly welcomed Béatrice Pérez and the delegation, expressing gratitude for her long-term support and promotion of cooperation between China and France, particularly in the establishment of the Sino-French Institute. He emphasized the profound historical friendship between China and France and highlighted the significant contributions made by both countries to the establishment of the institute. Zhang Donggang reiterated the importance of further deepening cooperation and exchange between the two universities, building new platforms for research and dialogue, and promoting practical cooperation with global influence.

Lin Shangli pointed out that the upcoming "Second Sino-European Civilization Forum: 'First' and 'Largest'—the 2024 International Conference on Population Aging" to be held at Sorbonne University is of great practical significance for promoting mutual learning of research methods and results between the two countries and advancing the modernization of the governance system and governance capabilities of aging societies. Lin Shangli emphasized the importance of establishing a new platform for research and dialogue to deepen cooperation and provide broader exchange opportunities and better support for students and teachers from both sides.

Béatrice Pérez highly praised the achievements of cooperation between the two universities and the vision for future cooperation. She expressed her anticipation for the upcoming Forum to be held at Sorbonne University. Béatrice Pérez emphasized the strategic vision and pragmatic spirit of cooperation in the humanities and social sciences between the two universities. She highlighted the importance of cultivating interdisciplinary talents who not only specialize in specific fields but also understand various civilizations and promote cultural exchange and mutual learning. Béatrice Pérez expressed her hope for further cooperation and the establishment of more interdisciplinary exchange platforms to deepen discipline cooperation and enhance academic exchanges between teachers and students.

On the same day, leaders of the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Philosophy of RUC held discussions with Béatrice Pérez and the delegation, conducting in-depth exchanges on collaborative research in literature, philosophy, linguistics, student and teacher exchanges, and collaborative publication.
