Xuan Fang is associate professor at the Department of Religious Studies of the School of Philosophy, Renmin University of China, and research fellow of the Institute for the Study of Buddhism and Religious Theory. He has also been visiting professor at more than 10 domestic institutions of Buddhist studies, including Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Xiamen University, Yunnan University, and the Research Institute of Buddhist Culture of China.

Mr. Xuan is a postgraduate tutor of Minnan Buddhist Academy, an academic committee member of Hangzhou Buddhist Academy. Further, he is active as executive editorial board member of "Religions" 《宗教》, as well as editorial board member of various domestic and foreign academic journals such as "Religious Studies" 《宗教研究》 (Renmin University of China), "Journal of Humanistic Religion" 《人文宗教研究》 (Peking University), "Review of Chinese Buddhism" 《汉语佛学评论》 (Sun Yat-sen University).

Mr. Xuan was a visiting scholar at University of Naples "L'Orientale" in Italy (1999), Harvard University in the United States (2006-2007), Ghent University in Belgium (2020), and currently he is a visiting scholar at Hamburg University in Germany (2023).

Professor Xuan Fang's research areas mainly focus on Buddhist philosophy, theory and practice of Buddhist meditation, Humanistic Buddhism and modern and contemporary Buddhism. He researched topics such as "Buddhist reform movement in the process of modernization", "Organization of Buddhist classics", "Current situation and development trends of Chinese Buddhism", "The position and function of Chinese Buddhism in the world".
