Personal profile

Lin Mei-mao, male, born in December 1961, with a Ph.D. degree from Japan, currently residing in Beijing. He is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Philosophy, Renmin University of China. He has served as a visiting professor at Aichi University, a visiting scholar at the University of Tokyo, a researcher at the Institute of Asian Studies in the International Christian University, and the president of Chinese Society for Studying Japanese Philosophies.

In recent years, Prof. Lin mainly devoted himself to the study of Japanese Sinology, the history of the reception of “Philosophy” in Meiji Japan, and the history of academic exchanges between China and Japan in modern times. Lecture courses include “Research on the Birth History of ‘Chinese Philosophy’”, “Research on Japanese Sinology” and “Special Research on the History of Japanese Thought”. Academic monographs are published as “Realm of the Body and Soul - Plato's Concept of Human Nature”, “Philosophy and Passion”, “Preface to Public Philosophy - Research on Public and Private Issues in China and Japan”, “Philosophy and Passion”, “From ‘Philosophy’ to ‘Chinese Philosophy’”, etc., co-authored “History of Western Ethical Thought”, “History of Western Philosophy”, “Challenging Philosophy in Modern Times”, “Knowledge and Learning in East Asian World”, and compiled “Research on Japanese Philosophy and Thought”, etc. Published dozens of important papers in academic journals between China and Japan, and led major, key and general programs funded by the National Social Science Fund of China.
