Chinese Philosophy

The Department of Chinese Philosophy is one of the first institutions in China to provide doctoral and masters’ degrees in Chinese philosophy. It was established in the mid-1950s and its research covers a wide range of topics, including ancient Chinese philosophy, modern and contemporary Chinese philosophy, comparative philosophy between China and the West, traditional Chinese culture and modernization, and more. To date, it holds a leading position both domestically and internationally on many research topics such as Confucian philosophy, the relationship between Confucianism and Daoism, Song-Ming Neo-Confucianism, modern and contemporary Chinese philosophy, Chinese philosophy and culture. The department is actively advancing the compilation and research of the Confucian classics, which is China's largest international academic and cultural cooperation project in the humanities and social sciences. This project aims to produce the highest quality of academic outcomes and highlight China’s unique values and cultural identity.
